What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese system of healing that has evolved and been perfected over the past 3,000 years. Its central theory involves balancing each individual’s vital energy (called chi) to achieve optimum functioning. This includes healing on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Acupuncture theory sees disease as a reflection of disharmony in the patient’s vital energy. Symptoms are meaningful signals of the need to restore energetic harmony to body, mind, and spirit.
Unlike Western medicine that calls the patient “cured” when a symptom temporarily disappears, acupuncture defines successful treatment as one that benefits the patient in all aspects of health, which naturally includes symptom removal. Acupuncture has been shown to be an effective treatment for pain, stress, asthma, fatigue, as well as problems in the circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems.

How does Acupuncture work?
The acupuncturist corrects the flow of vital energy by inserting ultra-thin sterile disposable stainless steel needles at specific “acupoints” during the treatment. Depending on the condition requiring treatment, the needles usually remain in place for about 30 minutes. Treatments are usually painless. Patients may feel a subtle sensation of moving energy. This sensation is the movement of chi in the channels (called meridians).
